400th Anniversary Square Panorama 1

by Мэрия Нальчика

The square of the 400th anniversary of the annexation of Kabarda to Russia in Nalchik is the main city attraction, it is distinguished by the presence of beautiful fountains and many other infrastructure facilities. Special attention should be paid to the pedestrian zone, thanks to which the residents of Nalchik and guests of the city can walk along the paved paths and explore the surrounding natural beauty.

The locals call this area "Mary's Square". This is due to the fact that one of the seven wives of Ivan the Terrible was the Kabardian princess Maria Temryukovna. It is believed that after the formidable king became related to a noble Kabardian family, the unification of Kabarda and Russia began. By the way, in 1957 a monument to Princess Maria was erected. The square of the 400th anniversary of joining Russia looks especially beautiful in the spring, when a large number of different southern flowers bloom in the flower beds.

Along the perimeter of the square of the 400th anniversary of the annexation of Kabarda to Russia in Nalchik, unusually shaped lanterns were installed, as well as trees were planted. Most importantly, the central square of Nalchik is a favorite place for relaxation and romantic walks for a large number of people. Many guests of the city start their tour from this square.
